Aaron's faith vindicated as SRH debutants run riot

Having backed them at the auction, Varun Aaron watched Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain justify the hype with twin four-fors and a fearless approach on debut

Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling coach Varun Aaron said it was a "dream come true" for the team to see two debutants, Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain, pick up four-wicket hauls and power a "complete team performance", not just a win driven by the top-order, like it often is for SRH.

"I mean to see two debutants come out and bowl the way they did tonight was a dream come true for the team," Aaron said. "The two debutants, my only plan to them was to just enjoy the game today because you debut only once in any form of cricket and I feel from where they've come - both the bowlers - and to what they've done today is massive and you've just got to enjoy the game.

"My only plea to both of them was before the game that if I don't see you enjoying the game, I'm going to be really angry with you. And they really did enjoy the game and we all enjoyed it as well."

One of the standout moments was Hinge getting Vaibhav Sooryavanshi off the first ball of the match. Coming into the match, there was huge anticipation around 15-year-old and Orange Cap-holder Sooryavanshi, who had looked up to the challenge against the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, and even Jasprit Bumrah in IPL 2026.

"I mean it's teamwork you know," Aaron said. "At the end of the day, all credit goes to Praful because he had the conviction to get Vaibhav out. He said, 'I've gotten Vaibhav out before, I'm going to get him out today'. The only conversation was he wanted to go around the wicket. I was like, 'no dude you just stay over the wicket, I'm sure you'll get him out'. But the plan was his, the conviction was his and I'm really happy for him."

Aaron, who was appointed as bowling coach last July, is in his first coaching role and replaced James Franklin at SRH.

"Look if you talk about the auction, I think everything in cricket is teamwork. Yes, I had seen these bowlers before, I did present their names to the management, to Dan and to all the other coaches but at the end of the day everybody's buy-in is needed to pick boys at the auction, so I wouldn't take the credit. I mean I think it's to the team's credit that we believed in these boys, we picked them.

"When I had seen them across different tournaments and in the nets, I always knew they had the x-factor... they have something different which can stand out especially in times like these where batsmen are just going hell for leather."

"Onkar [Tarmale] hasn't played a game yet, even he's a wonderful bowler. He has a small niggle that's why he couldn't feature earlier on in these games."
