When Kolkata Knight Riders piled up that total, it felt like a close finish was inevitable. Instead, MI blew the game open early. Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton came out swinging, cashing in big time during the powerplay, mirroring KKR’s own aggressive start. KKR’s inexperienced attack was under pressure straight away and Ajinkya Rahane’s injury only made things worse. Both Rohit and Rickelton brought up fluent fifties, putting MI firmly in control well before the halfway mark. Rohit’s brilliant 78 ended with a superb catch from Anukul Roy in the deep, but Rickelton kept the pressure on following his partner's departure. MI did lose a few wickets along the way, but the platform laid by Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton meant the chase was always under control and they were set to get it done comfortably. The bowling from both sides was largely ordinary, but it was Shardul Thakur’s three wickets and Bumrah’s tight overs towards the closing stages, that ultimately made the difference.
